Dazzling lights, vibrant stages and a gathering of beauty ambassadors from around the world set the scene as the 74th Miss Universe pageant opened in Thailand. Delegates from 121 countries arrived with messages centered on culture, strength and unity.
One key segment before the grand finale — the National Costume Round — took place Wednesday. Contestants showcased cultural heritage through traditional attire.
This year’s Miss Universe has also faced waves of controversy. At one event, Nawwad Itsara Grisila, director of Miss Universe Thailand, publicly scolded Mexico’s contestant Fatima Bosque, calling her “foolish.” Bosque protested immediately, prompting other contestants to walk out in solidarity. Despite four public apologies, Nawwad was removed from the role.
Two judges resigned just days before the grand finale. Lebanese-French musician Omar Harfouch alleged that organizers had already selected 30 finalists without informing the main judging panel. Hours later, French football figure Claude Pakele stepped down citing personal reasons. Miss Universe officials denied all allegations.

The competition now moves toward its climax. On November 21, the world will learn who earns this year’s crown, bringing an end to days of excitement, tension and anticipation.
